Recent Appt Update

Today was my regular check-up with the midwife. Everything seemed totally normal, which most definitely is how I like it. Aiden's heartbeat was about 140 bpm but of course every time she would try to get it he would move away. She just laughed and said she'd been chasing babies all day.

Today was the day to go over all the preterm labor stuff, which is a bit scary in general. She discussed all the things to watch for and things to do if I have any sort of contracting (lots of liquids in general for hydration and to ward off bladder infections). She also talked about signs and how a lot of women have the sensation of the baby getting into a hard ball but it's really a contraction. I think I'd pretty much heard the rest of it but not that before. She’s pretty great though and said she wouldn’t be surprised at all to get a call from me sometime this week because I’m worried I’m in preterm labor. It’s a scary discussion and she knows how it can make a lot of us even more worried than before.

She also asked about my childbirth classes - which we will be starting in about 4 weeks - holy crap! I still can't believe it's already getting so close! I’m not sure what to expect there. Most of the women I know said they never used the breathing but I’m going in just hoping to learn about this thing I have absolutely no experience with whatsoever.

Oh and I go back in only 3 weeks (I'm not sure why on that one, maybe because of her schedule) for the glucose test. They had a choice of orange or fruit punch and I didn't have a clue what to pick. I've always just heard about the orange but never the fruit punch. The girl that offered it said it’s relatively new for them but that people seem to be about half and half on which one they go with. I went with the fruit punch in hopes it wouldn't be too bad. Anyone have any stories on that?

So that’s it for the mid-wife for the month. Hopefully you won’t be hearing any more about that for three weeks and then you’ll get to hear me complain about getting my blood drawn. :-)

Oh My God. Me and my doc had the same conversation today about the contractions. I didn't think I was having them but that "hard ball" explanation really makes me think that maybe I have. Weird. Weird. Weird. Pregnancy is not for wimps.
